LOBSTER SEASON

READY, SET, GO— mini season for lobster is July 30 and 31, 2008! Divers are permitted to go lobstering before the commercial lobster season begins. In other words— we get first dibs! You will need a current FL salt water fishing license with a lobster stamp and a measuring gauge. Click here for information on instant licensing or call 888-347-4356 to get licensed now.

You can use a "bugger" or a net and tickle stick to catch the lobster. Please be careful not to damage the reef while lobstering. To be legally caught, Lobsters must have a carapace (head) of greater than 3 inches and must not be egg bearing females. Since many lobsters at the beginning of season are egg bearing (pregnant) please try not to break antenna or rip off legs while catching your lobster. You must check for eggs and measure the lobster under water before you place it in your catch bag.

If you have not been diving in a while - - be safe and smart - - check out your gear and adjust your weights before mini season starts. Also, while diving check your air gauge frequently as you can not believe how fast you will suck up air with the excitement of lobstering!

Regular lobster season starts on August 6th.
