WOMEN LOOKING FOR DIVE BUDDIES JOIN COUNTRY'S "WOMEN ONLY" DIVE CLUB

Over 80 women, aged 14 - 79, are members of South Florida Women Divers (SFWD), which was started started in 1991. Our members are single, married, some are mothers and some are grandmothers. We have members who are newly certified divers and some who are instructors with thousands of dives. All are welcome to join. We also have "Associate Members" who don't dive, but enjoy our many activities. Our activities have expanded to include kayaking and camping trips, as well as trips to Sea World, Disney, Butterfly World, bowling and other social activities.

MONTHLY MEETINGS WITH FUN AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

Visitors, members and guests are all welcome the first Wednesday of each month to our meetings from 7-9:00 pm in Boca Raton, just minutes from I-95. This convenient location draws women from as far south as Miami, and north to West Palm Beach and Lake Worth. Each meeting features a special program as well as chance to get to know each other, information about upcoming dives and trips, and snacks. We have a pre-meeting social at 6:30 prior to the meeting, which is a great way for visitors and new members to get to know others.

BOAT AND BEACH DIVES ALL YEAR LONG

We schedule most of out local boat dives out of Boynton Beach and Deerfield Beach, with drift diving on beautiful 60' reefs, with abundant fish and corals. Quite a few of our members lobster, and we have a "how to lobster class" each August. Beach dives are held on many weekends in the Ft. Lauderdale area or the Blue Heron Bridge in West Palm Beach. One of our most fun dives is our annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving contest each Halloween.

INTERNATIONAL DIVE TRIPS

Each year members organize several international trips. We have been to Palau, Yap, the Bahamas, Roatan, and Bonaire.

WEEKEND DIVE TRIPS FEATURE TRIPS TO KEYS, SINGER ISLAND AND SEARCHING FOR SHARK'S TEETH

At least 5 times a year we're off to someplace wonderful for a weekend. We dive in Islamorada, Marathon and Looe Key in the Florida Keys and a bit further north in the West Palm Beach area where we also have nightly turtle walks. Each year we to go to Venice, Florida where divers search for sharks teeth and other fossils. Trips include lodging at nice resorts, diving, and oftentimes, all meals.

SNORKEL WITH THE MANATEES IN CRYSTAL RIVER

Each winter we have a wonderful weekend on Florida's west coast as we snorkel with the manatees in Crystal River. Diving, kayaking and golf are just some of the extra activities available.

KAYAK, CAMPING AND OTHER TRIPS

Our club has expanded activities to include canoeing, kayaking, biking and camping and we've had some great trips at full service campgrounds. Lion Country Safari, Peace River, Highland Hammocks State Park, Jonathan Dickinson Park and Bahia Honda Park are just a few of the places we've visited recently. Trips include a planned activity, lots of free time, with shared cooking duties and are at a minimal cost. We have also had several trips to Sea World in Orlando, which included an evening at Cirque du Soleil.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES - PICNICS, PARTIES, BOWLING, DINNERS, THEATER

The activities increase as members step forward to plan them. We've done all kinds of fun things, from Cosmic Bowling, a day at Butterfly World, trips to IMAX, plays at the Broward Center, dinners to celebrate birthdays, and parties at members' homes to celebrate just about anything and everything.
